The Straight and Narrow Curve

Three poachers, stoked up on ‘a crowns worth’ of ale, decide to pull the roof off Shadrack Lewis’ house to teach the man a lesson. Lewis is known to be a police informer. Things get wildly out of hand, and they end up beating his brains out. But because Lewis is widely disliked, hundreds petition for clemency for the condemned man who struck the fatal blow. Thus Beni Griffiths is transported for murder, and demolishing a house.
