Two Grandfathers, Should Have Been For Me

William Percival Brownell (1862–1916)

The son of William Snr and Frances, William Percival Brownell, Alderman of the City of Hobart, continued the family business with his brother Augustus Spencer. In 1888 the business was renamed Brownell Bros, Hobart’s first department store.

In 1959 Brownell Bros. was taken over by Myer, Australia’s largest department store chain. Sadly the Brownell Bros. building in Hobart’s Liverpool Street was destroyed by fire in 2007.
